Dreaming of…Christmas Gifts from The Little Deer

December 9, 2013

the little deer

I’m not going to pretend that i’m one of those people who does their Christmas shopping in July or anything like that. Oh no, I am definitely of the ‘leave it til December, at the last minute if possible’ group of people.

It’s just because I like browsing, and looking at pretty shops, and just thinking that the next best thing is going to be around the corner…(I may also be indecisive, but that’s another story!).

One of the shops i’ve come across recently is The Little Deer. Launched in April 2009 and set up by Jade Golding while she was in her final year at university studying a Design and Photography degree, after working in retail for 6 years Jade decided it was time to create something of her own to reflect her passion for retail.

The Little Deer “aims to celebrate individuality and to encourage young people to express their identity through what they choose to wear”. And not only do they stock lovely pretty things, but they do so to provide a platform for independent designers to showcase their unique and quirky clothing and jewellery.

I’ve picked out some of my favourite items from Jade’s shop, perfect for either a stocking filler or maybe just a little treat for yourself. Well, Christmas shopping is exhausting, isn’t it?!

The Little Deer’s last day for mailing is 20th December, that’s just 11 days away! Eeek, I need to get on it, and quick!!

Dreaming of…a new tattoo!

May 29, 2013

I’ve been thinking about getting a new tattoo for ages…but I still don’t know what to go for! I love Alphonse Mucha’s art and have been drawn to his profiles of women, but am still unsure.

When I got the tattoo on my back I thought long and hard about the symbolism (I have a sun on my back) and also thought about it for ages before I finally got it. Now, I hardly ever even see it so I forget it’s even there, but whenever I see someone with an amazing tattoo it makes me reconsider all over again.

There’s also the question of who to get it done by?! My sister’s husband, Rodan, is an amazing tattoo artist and I know I would love to get something done by him soon, but then there’s also a lady called Jo Black in Frome who’s style really appeals to me…

I am not as close as I’d like to deciding on the kind of thing I’d like, but I know it’s something along the lines of a woman, possibly a profile, maybe including some paisley/Mucha elements…?!! Maybe it will come to me in a dream for real…

Night night <3

PS sorry if this has a terrible layout and no photo credits…but I’m getting more and more frustrated with trying to do this on an iPad!

Dreaming of…a room with a view

April 3, 2013

room, window, viewThe view out of my parents kitchen

I’ve been dreaming about houses a lot recently…

Of course, it’s because Tony and I are finally looking for our own place to call home here in Bristol. It’s all very exciting and I’m just impatient for us to find the right place! Being home last weekend and talking to my parents about buying a house, moving home etc made me look at the house I used to call home in a different light.

True, I wasn’t there long before I moved on to university and essentially out of the family home. We moved into the quaint (read: small!) terraced house in the centre of Chester just after I completed my GCSE’s. I had bright red hair, an Italian boyfriend and was getting ready to go on the adventure of a lifetime to Brazil for a Gap Year (one that would also shape my future in a number of different ways…but that’s for another time). I instantly loved being in the centre of town, having previously lived out in the countryside and with no driving licence or friends near by, it was beginning to get a bit claustrophobic. I suddenly had the world (OK, maybe just Chester…) at my fingertips and could go places without having to rely on my parents. Amazing! It was a revelation.

I shared a bedroom with my sister, but that didn’t even bother me. In fact, even though I was 16 and she was 13 it didn’t seem to cause too much of a problem. In fact, she was a great comfort to me through some pretty difficult teenage-angst times.

The house hasn’t changed much in the 13 years since my parents have lived there, other than people having moved rooms and ‘our room’ being non-existent. However looking at the kind of house I would like to live in had made me appreciate all the more this lovely terraced house where I spent the last 2 years of my childhood, if you can call it that. I love the little garden, the windows out to the garden in the dining room and bathroom have so much character, and the original features such as the dresser and oven are just the kind of things I would swoon over in a house here in Bristol.

There is a downstairs bathroom, but this is offset by the upstairs shower room. The perfect solution to a downstairs bathroom – something that south Bristol houses seem to suffer from! There’s even a fireplace in it…the Victorians knew how to build a good bathroom! It has beautiful bay windows downstairs and upstairs – in fact I remember I used to sit on the floor next to the window upstairs and just watch the world go by when I was younger. It was great.

I’m looking forward to this next chapter of my life where I can call a house my home, hopefully one that lives up to the house in Chester. I’m sure we’ll do it proud :)

What have you been dreaming of?

♥ Big love ♥

Dreaming of a Magical Loft in Madrid…

March 7, 2013

Prado museum

The Prado museum – source unknown

I’m so excited to be going to Madrid in May, and judging by how time is flying by the trip will be here before I know it (total old-person speak, but totally true!)

I’ve wanted to visit Madrid for ages, ever since I read the book Maya by Jostein Gaarder and fell in love with the thought of visiting the Prado museum and looking at all the beautiful paintings, wandering aimlessly around the markets and eating tapas at a cute little bodega.

Herb Lester’s “Let me tell you about Madrid”

My friend Leanne gave me this amazing little guide (pictured above) which is the perfect size for fitting in a moleskine or diary whilst wandering around Madrid. It looks like it’s got quirky little shops and boutiques and restaurants to try, and i’ve already started looking some of them up online to check them out!

Museo ABC Madrid

The Museo ABC – what a stunning building!

I’ve also been looking endlessly at Airbnb and have been adding my dream places to stay to my wish list

preciosa2 What a stunning lift!

apartment-magical This is the dream…listed as the ‘magical loft’, it just looks so, so beautiful!

How sweet!

So, if any of you have any tips and suggestions of places to visit, as well as restaurants to try out or anything like that i’d love to know! Hopefully in the next week we will get our accommodation sorted (here’s hoping I win the lottery and we get to stay in the ‘magical loft’!) and then all i’ll have left to plan is our itinerary. I can’t wait!
