Merry Bristmas! Your guide to what’s on in Bristol this weekend

December 3, 2013

Bristol is looking and feeling very festive this year, and there are plenty of markets and goings on to keep you busy over the festive period! Here is my pick of the things you can look forward to this weekend (6th-8th December).

Friday 6th

From 5pm-12midnight the Eat.Drink.Dance first ever market is on at the Island. It’s described as “Bristol’s first street food event combining local breweries, artists, music and all things local. A magical night of eating, drinking and dancing…” Sounds awesome!

There is also the Antlers Winter Shop, which launches on Friday 6th from 6pm-9pm. It sounds like they have some awesome chefs cooking up a warming winter stew, and as ever a select group of designers to showcase. Again, more details are available on the Facebook page.

Saturday 7th

It’s the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade! Starting at South Street Park (i’m going to have a lovely view!) at around 4.30pm – get involved!

Before you head to the Lantern Parade, why not check out the East Street Christmas Market?

It’s markets galore on Saturday – on the other side of town the Royal York Gardens Christmas Market is happening on Royal York Crescent in Clifton. I’ll be there, supporting the lovely Bramall & Smith with their first Christmas market.

If wandering around markets in the cold isn’t really you’re thing, how about checking out the Made in Bristol pop-up shop at the Architecture Centre? More details are available on the event Facebook page.

The Bristol Old Vic are showing The Little Mermaid – it looks spectacular!

Sunday 8th

Sustrans have organised a ‘Santatastic’ cycle ride, so expect to see lots of cycling Santas and reindeers from M Shed on Sunday from 10.30am-2.30pm!

Swingin’ at the Spiegaltent – “Swing Dance Bristol presents a night of retro indulgence, with music from the 1920s to the early 1940s.” There is dinner, dancing, and the dress code is strictly Gatsy, 20s glamour.

There are so many more things on, as well as the usual markets in St Nicks and the Harbourside market…what will you be going to this weekend?

Big (Christmassy) love! :)

Hola lovely people! What treats are in store for you this week?

This week i’ll be upping my blogging game, with an update on my recent trip to Madrid tomorrow, plus a new feature starting on Thursday which i’m so excited about, so watch this space! In the meantime, keep yourself busy and see Tuesday whizz by with some online reading:

  • The Blogcademy ladies have announced even more dates to their schedule this year, in none other than Austin, Texas and Melbourne, Australia. If by any chance I have any readers there, get yourselves on the course as these ladies know their thing!
  • I’m liking the sound of these 20 different cocktails – there are definitely a few i’ll be trying over the summer.
  • What with us trying to buy our first house, I’ve been scouring the design blogs for ideas and inspiration. I love this grey palette from Design Sponge. I don’t normally like grey, but i’m starting to think it’s actually a really ‘useful’ colour to use in rooms.
  • Do you know what the origin of the phrase ‘bandy around’ is? You do now!
  • If you’re in Oxford, you’re a woman running your own business, head to Word of Mouth. Jo, who writes the Fe-line blog, was at the Blogcademy, and she’s such a motivational, positive person! They also have some great speakers too.
  •  Mamma Llama are doing another Peruvian pop-up restaurant and places are selling fast – book on to it here.
  • And another pop-up restaurant, Clandesdiner are now taking bookings for their 1st June menu. Read about it here!

Well that’s it for now! Hope you all have a lovely Tuesday, and remember to check back here on Thursday for my new feature :)

Big love

Glitter Macro - 01

Macro glitter!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is an even better Tuesday than normal for me, as it’s only a two-day week in work. Yay! We’re off to a hopefully sunny Madrid and I can’t wait!

Here are some of my favourite links of the week. Enjoy!

  • Interesting article in the Guardian over the weekend about the rise of the iNanny. It’s something I think about quite a lot for the future, especially as I’m so addicted to the internet/social media as well. How on earth do you provide a good example to kids?
  • Guthrie & Ghani is open for business, which is Lauren of the Great British Sewing Bee’s new venture.  Tilly wrote a lovely round-up about it, and Lauren’s post be found here. Next time I visit Birmingham i’ll definitely be making a stop there.
  • Bit random, but if you’re planning to visit New York City soon, Davina of The Making Home wrote about the top 10 things to do. I will visit, one day!
  • Bristol folk – the Bristol Media Tuesday is on tonight at Goldbrick House, and Gemma Coles of Mubaloo will be talking about app development, and how apps sit alongside other creative services. If you’re also there, come and say hello to me. :)

Have a great week, and enjoy the rest of your Tuesday!

Tuesday Link Treasury: Paint and Glitter

March 12, 2013

Well what a week! We’ve gone from Spring back to Winter again all in the space of a few days. It is freezing here! I tell you, cycling in this cold is playing absolute havoc with my skin.

Anyway, here is your weekly list of internet treasures to procrastinate with…enjoy!

  • OK I take it back, THIS is the best thing i’ve seen all year. Hilarious!!
  • Interesting article in the Guardian last week on how Boris Johnson could actually do a lot for London cyclists. I still think he’s a plonker, but is he pulls this off he may gain a lot of respect…
  • & Other Stories, H&M’s other big sister, launched on Friday. I am already obsessing about the shoes, the silk dresses, the skirts….everything! Also, I LOVE the site layout. They have properly thought about the iPad shopping generation, it works perfectly on a tablet.

Tuesday link treasury: small but perfectly formed

March 5, 2013

From EightHourDay

  • I love coffee, and I love cheesecake, so this recipe is a must-try!
  • And I really like this skirt…although it looks really plain in the picture I think it might just be the perfect summer skirt.
  • It’s getting closer and closer to when Tony and I buy a house, and I can’t stop looking at decorating/home tips. These wallpapers are pretty awesome, but I think I would only use them in a small, very specific place.
  • I know we’re heading to Spring now, but Naiiv has the most beautiful knitwear. My friend bought me a pair of gloves and a bag back from Latvia when she visited their store, and I want to collect all their pieces!

Big love on this sunny Tuesday! <3

Tuesday Link Treasury: words of wisdom and songs

  • Should local shops open outside of the normal 9-5 hours to encourage after-work shopping? This is something I am in agreement with, although I understand that most local shops don’t have the resources of big supermarket chains. However, anyone who knows me knows I LOVE Licata on Picton St, and the fact that they’re open til 7pm each night is a massive help whenever I want to pick up some food after work.
  • If you’re in Brighton, check our Alice’s workshop for practical advice on starting your own business!
  • Charlotte of Restoration Cake has launched a book! Her cupcakes at the Blogacademy were to die for!
  • I came across this post about the meaning of dreams through Nubby Twiglet’s link love post last week. It is so interesting to think about what your dreams mean. I’ve been having some crazy dreams lately and wish I took the time to write the down more and figure out what they mean.

Tuesday Link Treasury – Happy Pancake-eating day!

Chocolate brownie
The brownies I made on Sunday.

Happy Tuesday!

Not only is it time for some lovely links, it’s also Pancake Day! How are you spending yours? We’ll be making mini pancakes filled with nutella and banana – a classic combo you can’t go wrong with!

Here’s what i’ve been browsing through this week, enjoy!

  • I’ve already downloaded and printed this pattern for how to make a tulip skirt, and can’t wait to start it!
  • Cute and free, too.
  • I’m jealous some of the Blogcademy girls got to meet up, Scarlett Nymph also wrote about it – a Bristol/South West meet up is in order!
  • Turn your Instagram photos into a book!
  • The museum of costume in Bath has a costume exhibition on at the moment. Check it out!

  • I’m very excited that Tilly has launched her first pattern, the Mathilde blouse, and can’t wait to try it out!
  • I love this tealight holder, in fact all of the tealights on this site are beautiful. And handmade in London, too.
  • This DIY oven mitt and hot pad tutorial has come just at the right time for me. I can never find any oven mitts in a pattern I like, so making my own is a no-brainer!
  • Aw, thanks Google, I’m sure the pictures will be just like the real thing.
  • If you fancy giving screenprinting a go, Drawn in Bristol do inductions on it, held at Hamilton House. I might give try it out too! (plus this page features a lovely print by one of my friends, Chris).
  • If you’re stuck for a new recipe idea, you have to try this red lentil curry. It’s cheap, super tasty and you can add anything you want to it. We often make it with king prawns, and if you add coriander and eat it with a bit of yoghurt on the side, it makes the perfect mid-week dinner!
  • Do you really know Bristol? With this map, you can!

And finally, check out Robyn Rooke – she is a Bristol based pole dancing champion – now that is some good core strength! And she only got into pole dancing 9 years ago, which is crazy!
