House renovations part 1 – the dining room

September 2, 2014

Tubby

Tubby is my favourite piece of furniture ever!

It’s all been very exciting as our house renovations gets underway, and it’s finally starting to come together! The dining room is almost complete, so I thought i’d share some photos of our progress so far. To begin with, take a look at how the dining room looked before:

And this is how it looks now!!

We got some lovely (and inexpensive!) solid oak flooring from Gardiner Haskins which we laid ourselves (or rather, Tony laid with the help of one of our friends), and turned the stairs 180 degrees so that a corridor could be built to the bathroom upstairs. This has meant the stairs come down straight in to the dining room which I absolutely love, it joins the house together really nicely!

We bought a pair of  yellow Habitat Aerial lamps to hang over the table, as a contrast to the teal patterned wallpaper. I love yellow accents, so couldn’t resist these!!

The wallpaper is the real star of the show. I’ve been eyeing it up for ages, and it’s from a collection by Sian Elin.  We actually ended up buying it from Off the Wall as we needed an odd amount, and Sian didn’t have that particular paper in stock at the time. It’s probably my favourite colour ever, it’s an amazing pattern and it makes me smile every time I walk in to the dining room – what could be better?!

We’re looking forward to sorting the dining table and chairs, and putting up the second lamp. The room is still quite bare as we haven’t got any shelves or anything up, but i’m tempted to leave it as is for at least a little while longer as I just love the wallpaper so much, I don’t want to tarnish it with shelves just yet!

Stay tuned for more updates!

♥ Big love
